Vital Research conducts research and evaluation projects in a variety of fields, including health care, education, aging services, and social services. Projects range from very small to very large.

The Senior Researcher is responsible for developing project proposals, designing research and evaluation plans, finding or developing appropriate measuring tools, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and managing large-scale client projects that involve complex planning, coordination, and resource requirements. The Senior Researcher is a member of the Leadership team, which is responsible for the overall strategic direction of Vital Research.

Description of duties:

1. Project Design
Develop evaluation plans and research designs.
Design instruments.
Establish the protocols and methodology for the collection, entry, and management, and analysis of client data.

2. Project Implementation
Prepare and implement project work plans.
Assemble, train and guide the multi-level project team.
Ensure quality and accuracy of each aspect of the work plan.
Analyze quantitative and/or qualitative data using common programs (e.g., SPSS, SAS, ACCESS, Atlas ti).
Interpret results from statistical and qualitative output.
Write, review, and edit narrative project reports; prepare presentations.
Deliver oral presentations to clients.

3. Client Relations
Act as the primary client contact on projects.
Meet with clients and provide expert consultation.
Deal tactfully with client relations issues or problems.


4. Program Planning/Business Development
Work as a collaborative member of the Leadership team to understand and analyze internal and external conditions that could have an impact on the company's success in the short-term and the long-term.
Network to identify business opportunities.
Participate in systematic marketing of VR services to one or more business segments.
Develop accurate and consistent project proposals to meet client needs.
Remain current on research trends and public policies that relate to the success of Vital Research.

5. Personnel Management
Supervise and provide feedback to team members.
Provide professional development planning for selected team members.
Create and maintain a positive work environment that fosters a strong customer focus and teamwork.

Effectively resolves interpersonal conflicts that arise in the office or with outside personnel.
Possesses highly effective analytical thinking ability to gather, understand, integrate, and synthesize complex information in order to develop solutions, make recommendations, or propose action plans
Explains technical information, roles, and responsibilities in a manner that is organized and easy to understand.
Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in response to multiple tasks and handle sudden changes in priorities or when encountering new situations.
Makes reasonable judgments quickly, and adjusts thinking to assimilate new information or ideas.
Delivers on commitments.
Creative and innovative; anticipates potential challenges and prepares contingency plans.
Advanced computer skills (e.g, Microsoft Office Professional products, Windows XP or Windows 7 Professional).
Reporting and presentation skills.
Intermediate to advanced skills in SPSS, Access, and/or Atlas ti, preferred.


Background and Experience:
PhD in social sciences preferred.
Must have thorough knowledge of research and evaluation design and methods, including qualitative and quantitative approaches to data analysis.
Must have at least five years of successful leadership experience.
Must have at least five years of experience within a relevant field and outside an academic setting.

Compensation: Starting salary $85,000 - $90,000
