The Bursar is responsible for managing all aspects of tuition collection including Fellow billing, account receivables, and disbursement of financial aid. The position is also responsible for acting as the primary contact with Fellows regarding the payment of all tuition and fees. Work closely with Institute Finance department and the AFI Conservatory director, Financial Aid on all AFIC finance needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
Plan and implement a Fellow tuition financial billing and receivable program, ensuring the accuracy of data by building quality controls.
Disburse federal, private, and institutional financial aid in accordance with federal cash management and institutional policies.
Monitor Fellow withdrawals to determine refunds and work with the Director, Financial Aid, for any return of federal funds.
Implement and maintain Fellow's promissory notes for unpaid tuition and fees.
Assist with Registration each term.
Provide monthly reconciliation reports to the Financial Aid office and AFI Accounts Receivable.
Serve as day-to-day liaison between AFI Conservatory and AFI Finance Department.
Collaborate on annual IPEDS, NASAD, WASC and AFI reports.
Provide a report 3 weeks into each term on the status of EVERY enrolled Fellow regarding tuition and fees payment and outstanding payment plans.
Update each term financial report one month before the end of the term -- circulate with Registrar, Director of Financial Aid, Dean and Executive Vice Dean.
Participate as needed in the annual audit by providing tracking and allocations for financial aid funds.
Supervise Temp Employees during the registration periods and on a project basis as needed.
EXPERIENCE/SKILLS REQUIRED:
Bachelor's degree preferred;
Minimum 3-5 years experience;
Proficiency in the use of accounting practices and software;
Familiarity with federal cash management regulations as they relate to the disbursement of Title IV funds;
Experience working with accounting and billing processes;
Excellent communication and organizational skills;
Keen sense of the sensitive and confidential nature of relations and records related to Conservatory Staff, Fellows and Faculty;
Ability to prioritize and maintain several on-going projects at one time;
Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Filemaker Pro and Quickbooks;
Strong interpersonal skills are essential.
