Position: Construction supervisor. This is for high end residential construction. The clients and architects and designers are fussy. The projects are very detail oriented. You'll be part of building projects you see in design magazines.
If your experience is in government projects or commercial construction, this position is probably not for you. No offense intended to anyone in that line of work--the priorities are just different.
Aside from the usual demo, concrete work and framing, you'll often find yourself overseeing installation of custom fabricated doors, windows and millwork, unusual plaster and tile finishes, and rare plumbing and lighting fixtures. Understanding how the installation of those out of the norm finishes will need to be prepped in the demo, foundation and framing is a must. That will often require out of the box thinking and, sometimes, the ability to come up with inventive construction methods.
Although the position is mostly supervisory, having the ability and background to pick up your tools to hang a door or install a missing piece of trim is a plus.
The following characteristics are also important:
--An organized leader who is able to supervise and coordinate subcontractors
--Presentable and comfortable working with clients
--Computer competent
--Experienced in reading plans and layout
--"Hands on" experience and solid competence in at least one trade, preferably carpentry
--A good sense of humor
--Above all, high standards of quality
The work is in the L.A. area: at present, in the Hollywood Hills.
