Overview:
Seeking Merchandise Intern for launch of massive, interactive, and complex retail store opening in the summer of 2012 in a highly visible location in Hollywood. Excellent opportunity for gaining high-level expertise at what will be a prominent and well-publicized tourist destination.
Candidate will work mostly from temporary offices in West Los Angeles and occasionally from home.
15-20 hours per week.
Intern will start immediately
The internship will pay $10 an hour.
Role:
The Merchandise Intern will work directly with the General Merchandise Manager to coordinate and source items from a multitude of vendors, and organize and track an immense amount of merchandise for the store launch. Role may evolve over time as project progresses.
Responsibilities:
Interns will gain some of the following skills:
Selection of in-demand goods and analysis of current market trends.
Efficient purchasing of packaging, merchandise, and other materials.
Use of inventory control system to set up product and vendor accounting.
Clear and efficient communication and follow-up with partners and vendors.
Research and development for visual designs of merchandise.
Analysis for accurate sales reports and support materials.
Organization of buying department vendor and sample materials.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidate is working toward a degree in economics, business, merchandising or related fields, and has an interest in innovative retail environments. Must be extremely organized and detail-oriented. Some retail experience is a plus, but not necessary. We are looking for someone with a healthy left-brain/right-brain balance -- the ideal candidate is both process-oriented and creative.
