Independent Contractor

Construction management and engineering consulting firm is currently seeking experienced Cost Estimating Independent Contractor to assist with a variety of construction consulting projects on an as-needed contract basis.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

Management of multiple simultaneous cost estimating efforts.
Construction cost estimate review and validation.
Cost related construction defect analysis.
Lender acquisition and due diligence evaluations.
Claims analysis and preparation.
Risk evaluation and recommendations.
Development and review of technical reports.
Analyze plans and other documentation to prepare quantity takeoffs of time, materials, equipment and labor needs.
Develop a checklist of material purchase to use prior to award.
Assess cost effectiveness of products or services and look for value engineering opportunities.
Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments and construction professionals to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing and scheduling work.
Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors. Analyze subcontractor and vendor quotes for conformity and reasonability prior to utilizing.
Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors and subcontractors.
Obtain review and input from contractors and other support groups for specific needs of proposal.
Prepare subcontractor bid packages.
Solicit and maintain communications with subcontractors and vendors.
Support project managers with change order estimating or independent cost evaluations.
Perform a comprehensive "bid day" analysis and scoping of specific assigned trades.

Qualified candidates must:

Hold a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction or related discipline.
Have at least 15 years of cost estimating experience with a diverse industry background to include industrial, healthcare, transportation, education, residential and commercial.
Excel at developing and maintaining client relationships.
Have a proven track record for managing multiple projects consisting of diverse team members to successful completion.
Have a firm grasp on standard cost estimating approaches, methodology and techniques.
Be proficient with standard industry cost estimating tools and resources such as Timberline, RS Means, Microsoft Excel, etc.
Be open to travel nationally and internationally on an as needed basis.

Additional and preferred qualifications:
Hold a post-graduate degree in engineering, construction or related discipline.
Hold or be interested in acquiring professional certifications (PE, CCE, CCP, etc.) within areas of expertise.
Knowledge of WinEst and Primavera a plus.
Hold a LEED Certification.
