We are currently seeking a highly motivated Product Development Assistant to join our Fashion Jewelry team! This individual will be responsible for assisting the Jewelry Product Development team in the research and development of new product concepts, as well as development and management of the whole design and production process. The Product Development Coordinator will creatively brainstorm and concept new ideas that fit within our established product criteria and formats, and will effectively solve issues and problems related to design, production scheduling and costs. This individual will also be involved with all scheduling and contact with artists. This role also over sees administrative functions of the department, including tracking, scheduling and updating reports and product programs.
Responsibilities
Update product development Excel spreadsheets to include critical products reports
Communicate and effectively collaborate with various departments such as Sales, Design, and Marketing who are integral to the product development process. Identify delays and inconsistencies and notify appropriate Senior Product Development Manager for resolution.
Research past our product to analyze degree of success in market research and product research.
Maintain and manage a group of products (with guidance from Product Development Manager) with emphasis on the design quality. Responsible for program scheduling and target dates.
Follow up on outstanding issues in a timely fashion.
Manage proofing samples through clear and regular communication with production vendors.
Work with sourcing to ensure we achieve our target profit margins on new product introductions.
Required Skills:
MA, MFA, BA or BFA degree in Art, Art History, Fine/Studio Arts, Illustration, Product Design, Sculpture, Graphic Design or an art-related field
Min of 1 year experience in product development/design or jewelry designing, buying, or merchandising experience in a fast-paced environment
1-2+ years' experience making jewelry and working with the manufacturing of jewelry
Experience networking with freelance designers and demonstrated skill in contract negotiations
Art directing/critiquing experience
Strong artistic/creative skills
Excellent organizational, project management, and communication skills - both verbal and written
Strong work ethic and passion for and interest in jewelry and jewelry trends
Must be organized and must be very detail-oriented
Knowledge of MAC/PC including Excel, Word, PhotoShop
Ability to work and troubleshoot in an extremely fast-paced environment
Ability to manage projects from conception to product stage; ability to manage costs and budgets
Experience in a clerical and/or art and craft environment is a major plus
Knowledge of manufacturing processes such as casting, assembly, plating, and finishing is very desirable
Familiarity with Adobe suite and databases is helpful
