The Assistant Controller / Inventory Consultant will assist this rapidly growing e-commerce/consumer products/distribution company with inventory procedures and general day to day accounting activities.
This is an Interim to Hire role. Must be available to start on Monday, the 16th.
Research, analysis, and reconciliation of account balances such as: inventory, accounts receivable, accounts payable, reserves, intangible assets, fixed assets, cash, accruals in addition to the full cycle accounting procedures
o COGS/Inventory: help with 3-way match purchase orders, invoices, and receipt of goods
o Investigate variances, create roll forward of inventory movement each month, validate data.
o Revenue: calculate revenue for month from detailed sales data, reconcile to cash receipts, and record JE.
o Discounts/Returns: calculate reserve each month, validate data from various sources and create JE.
o Fixed assets: prepare roll forward and schedules detailing additions, disposals, adjustments, depreciation JEs.
o Accruals: prepare and analyze accrual activity while also communicating with other
departments to gain an understanding of upcoming expenses to be accrued.
Understand and interpret vendor contracts and account for them properly in the GL
Calculate and report monthly/quarterly/annual tax amounts and communicate with tax specialists on annual returns
Prepare and analyze the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including supporting schedules
Prepare annual budgets and other periodic forecasting measures while providing meaningful analysis and recommendations on spending
Create, develop, implement and document internal accounting/finance controls, procedures and reporting structures
Coordinate and communicate financial information to upper management
Prepare audit schedules and be able to communicate with auditors
Ability to supervise, train and mentor accounting staff
Assist in systems implementation
Manage on a daily basis, accounts receivable and accounts payable
Reconcile and record credit card disbursements
Assist the Controller and Executives with ad hoc reporting and other requests as needed
Desired Skills Experience
Bachelor's Degree or Higher in Accounting or Business
Supervisory experience required
5+ years in an accounting environment, preferably retail and ecommerce
Full understanding of accounting information systems, especially inventory and revenue
Experience with accounting systems (Oracle, Great Plains, Dynamics, and/or other ERP systems)
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment with a willingness to commit to long hours to reach goals and meet deadlines
Must be self-motivated, organized, and a great project manager
Track record of taking initiative, being pro-active in producing accounting solutions
Demonstrated ability to deliver quality results under time constraints
Must have excellent reconciliation and analytical skills
Responsive oral and written communication skills
Must be detail-oriented and dedicated to documenting activities and functions
Ability to multi-task and to maintain strict confidentiality
Understanding of accounting for continuity business models preferred
Advanced excel (vlookups, sumifs, pivot tables, hot keys, logical formulas, etc.)
