This position acts as financial advisor to a regional third-party logistics company, and is responsible for providing financial analysis and planning, budget control, accounting methods and profit and loss reporting. Also performs hands-on functions related to the accounting department currently consisting of the controller.
- Meets with company executives frequently to review financial reports and advise on financial matters.
- Recommends and participates in the development of company policies and procedures; may serve on company planning and policy-making committees.
- Maintains the company's system of accounts and keeps books and records on all company transactions and assets.
- Coordinates and directs the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts.
- Is responsible for compliance with all federal, state, and local corporate, payroll, and other applicable taxes in conjunction with company accountant.
- Establishes and implements short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures; monitors and evaluates operational effectiveness; effects changes required for improvement.
- Works with the company's accountant in the performance of the company's external audits, and reports the results to the management; implements corrections and improvements as required.
- Development, analysis, and interpretation of statistical and accounting information in order to appraise operating results in terms of profitability, performance against budget.
- Responsible for evaluating the performance of personnel in the Accounting Department.
- Furnishes internal reports, revises and updates reports to be more useful and efficient, and furnishes external reports as necessary.
- Evaluates and recommends insurance coverage for protection against property losses and potential liabilities.
- Manages, directs, or participates in special projects, assignments or system development projects which impact financial reporting.
- Maintain all bank accounts. Establish and maintain good banking relations.
- Manage daily accounting mail, including notices and disbursements.
- Monitor medical insurance, 401(K) and other employee benefit plans.
- Manage the accounts payable function within the organization's established policies. Analyze, verify and post transactions to journals, ledgers and other records. Examine records of amounts due and make sure invoices are paid according to terms and discounts taken. Direct invoice processing and verification, expense coding, and drafting of payment checks or vouchers.
- Oversee accounts receivable recordkeeping. Ensure cash receipts, claims, or unpaid invoices are accounted for properly.
- Manage the preparation, distribution, and reporting processes for payroll. Oversee the calculation of wages, overtime, and deductions to ensure compliance with federal and state laws. Ensure that payments and government reports are disbursed timely and accurately. Establish and maintain policies and procedures for the payroll function.
- Maintain Company Personnel files and records.
- Safely performs assignments, following applicable safety practices, policies and safe work behavior, assists in maintaining the security of the warehouse. Maintains a clean, neat and orderly work area. Successfully completes safety training related to this position for all personnel. Notifies appropriate personnel when a job hazard or an unsafe work practice emerges during work ensuring compliance with OSHA, CALOSHA and HAZMAT regulations.
- Maintains the company's quality standards within the Warehouse Operation to ensure correct, prompt, courteous and quality. Integrates the Company's quality standards throughout the warehouse environment.
- Perform additional duties as required by management. (Attend warehouse meetings, acts as liaison between employees and top management)
