The Student Success Advisor works in a team environment to develop and implement various student support initiatives designed to assist students with the successful completion of their certificate or degree. Working within Student Services, the Student Success Coordinator collaborates with other departments to ensure that all students have accessible and appropriate support. Advisors may work with students and academic leadership in one or more degree programs.
Responsibilities:
Assists in developing and managing an Early Alert System that integrates data from several sources to translate early warning indicators to meaningful interventions to support student success.
Regularly monitors student attendance/participation and enrollment each term; communicates with non-attending students to offer support and encourage enrollment.
Works closely with instructors and staff on retention related topics, including early risk indicators and referral skills.
Makes recommendations about programs and changes that the schools may undertake to improve the retention of students.
Works with Student Services to assess retention programs and continually evaluates the effectiveness of various initiatives.
Advise students who are on academic probation and create Academic Improvement Plans to retain students and promote improvement.
Participate in the new student Orientation to enhance awareness of student services, retention and special resource programs.
Encourage student engagement and enrichment activities.
Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
At least two years of experience as an admissions, retention or academic advisor for an accredited college or university.
Ability to use judgment, discretion, and decision making skills in dealing with confidential and sensitive issues.
Ability to adhere to institution policies and procedures.
Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Ability to deal with and manage conflict.
Ability to problem solve by questioning, organizing, researching, analyzing, processing and interpreting information.
Experience in a challenging, high volume, multitasking environment.
Ability to work a nonstandard schedule including evenings and weekends.
