We are a successful boutique family portrait studio looking for one full time person to join our small team. The successful candidate will be able to assist on family portrait sessions, interact with clients in a professional manner, handle office responsibilities, present well to our higher end clients, and yet won't mind running errands or taking out the trash. The position is 40 hours a week on a highly variable (and sometimes difficult to predict) schedule (including most weekends and many evenings). You should also be willing to spend occasional weeks working in the Santa Barbara area (we will put up you at a hotel).
This is a unique opportunity to be part of the business and photography of a successful and busy studio and an outstanding team of six dedicated people who work together to create great photography that our clients will value and treasure for decades and generations to come. Come and see why we are growing when so many other photography studios are struggling.
You must be comfortable on the phone, be able to write a professional business correspondence, and have strong organizational and follow-through skills.
Key Job Responsibilities:
Photo assist on family portrait sessions.
Participate in client order appointments.
Handle all coordinating and photo assisting on aspects of the photographer's photo project in Santa Barbara, including identifying, contacting and booking photo sessions with local artists .
Identify and contact non-profit and educational organizations as part of our partner marketing efforts.
Handle various and changing responsibilities as needed, including errands, some cleaning for client appointments, and special projects.
Requirements:
Photographic studio experience (experience with film equipment and lighting will be considered as a substitute). We aren't necessarily looking for a professional photographer or experienced assistant, but you should have some relevant experience and knowledge.
Standard computer skills using Mac, including word processing.
The ability to communicate professionally.
Punctuality and dependability.
A willingness to handle a wide range of responsibilities, both in studio and in the office.
The flexibility to handle changing schedules, and weekend availability.
The ability to learn quickly and make well reasoned decisions.
(Let me be candid - if you have a history of issues, or don't like to work hard, this isn't your job. You will never get away with slacking, and spending time on Facebook when you're on the the clock will quickly end your employment.)
Interested applicants should reply with a brief cover letter, a resume, and three references that can be contacted prior to an interview with us (phone numbers and email addresses are suggested). You will be judged on the professionalism of your response, so please do your best to make a good first impression (which also means only applying for the position if you are actually qualified for it, and paying attention to your grammar and spelling). You must have a working knowledge of professional photography (which means more than just knowing about your camera).
Please also BRIEFLY answer ALL of the following questions:
What brands of studio strobe lighting are you comfortable working with?
What is a C-stand with an arm, and in your personal experience when is is of particular benefit to use one?
Where do you see yourself in three years?
What are your salary requirements (please answer in terms of dollars; "enough to live on" isn't useful information)? (Please know that we do include health and dental insurance after your probationary period.)
What experience do you have working with children (this can include personal experience with children as well as professional experience)?
When are you available to start working?
What unique qualities and/or skills do you bring to the proverbial table?
What is your greatest weakness (note: please do not answer this with a strength disguised as a weakness - we all know that technique)?
(Please leave the subject line of your email unchanged from what is automatically put in by CL when you click on the email link.)
Thank you, and we look forward to considering your application.
